As National Apprenticeship Week highlights the opportunities available for apprentices, UK-based charity Education and Employers launches a report, Teenage Apprenticeships: Converting Awareness to Recruitment. The Government want to have recruited 3million apprenticeships by 2020, and the report investigates why the number of school leavers becoming apprentices has flatlined.

How has children’s online activity changed in the last 24 months since the last survey?
One of the biggest trends we’re seeing is the increased popularity of live streaming. Live streaming allows users to see events unfold literally as they happen, as well as broadcast their own lives for friends to watch.
Teachers are calling for the Department for Education to place more importance on modern foreign languages (MFL), according to new research published by Mary Glasgow Magazines, part of Scholastic’s education group.
A survey of 101 secondary schools asked language teachers how important they thought the Department for Education currently sees MFL in schools on a scale of 0-10 – with the average response being just 5/10. When asked how important the Department for Education should see MFL in schools the response rose to 9/10.
Over 35 per cent have little or no understanding of the new measures. A recent survey on teachers’ understanding of the Government’s new accountability measures, Progress 8 and Attainment 8, has revealed that over 35 per cent of teachers feel they have ‘very little, little or no understanding’ of the new system. The survey, that was carried out by online homework and exam-preparation service for secondary schools, SAM Learning, gained over 400 teacher responses.
Specialist independent education agency, Class People, has responded with surprise to the NASUWT survey that suggests supply teachers are missing out on pay and development opportunities. The survey which suggests that 58% of supply teachers were not getting enough work is at odds with Class People figures.
“We are in the midst of a teacher recruitment crisis and therefore schools are having to rely more heavily on agency cover for support, which has led to us struggling to fill our placements due to teachers’ lack of availability."
The detrimental consequences of government policy on art, craft and design education have been exposed by the findings of The National Society for Education in Art and Design Survey Report 2015-16 to be launched at the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Art, Craft and Design in Education at 4pm on Tuesday 9 February 2016.
