Innovative programme brings holistic support to school children

There is a new educational programme gaining traction in East London schools for its innovative approach to pupil support.

Motivate to Educate (M2E) is designed and run by local social enterprise. Kineara. It is an intensive programme that aims to build confidence and motivation in pupils by working closely with them, their families and the schools’ existing support service to help the young person get the most out of their education.

The difference is this: with years of experience working with vulnerable families,  Kineara’s practitioners are well aware of the impacts of multiple forms of vulnerability on young people.  Kineara is able to get to the root of the problem quickly, working within the family home as well as in the school, these short but intensive interventions can have important positive long term impacts.

By way of example, Bigland Green Primary School is the latest to try the intensive intervention. This follows Redlands Primary, which has had 10 pupils and their families undergo the intervention and the feedback from pupils and head teacher Ann O’Reilly has been so positive that the school has just signed up another 3 interventions for 15 pupils and their families in 2016/17.

The families Kineara meet are faced with all kinds of barriers that can seem impossible to pass on their [[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"218","attributes":{"class":"media-image alignright size-medium wp-image-7708","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"300","height":"200","alt":"IMG_8450"}}]]own, with little idea of what may be happening in the home, schools are finding that a support worker with that extra reach can make all the difference.

Kineara’s M2E programme works to address confidence, while building understanding and communication between the school and the family, building on pupils’ strengths and offering the practical support to the families need to get out of crisis.
