Holdens appointed to rebrand University of Southampton Students’ Union

With over 23,000 members and a wide range of services, offers and facilities, the University of Southampton Students’ Union is one of the biggest in the country.

The University is in the top 1% of universities worldwide and the Union has recently released a 2020 Vision Plan, with the ultimate objective of becoming one of the top ranked unions in the UK within the next five years. To help them achieve this status, SUSU have appointed Holdens - one of Manchester’s leading integrated creative agencies - for a comprehensive brand review.

Holdens will work closely with SUSU to create a new Brand Identity and Guidelines as well as an Integrated Communications Strategy. SUSU are looking to not only increase its current members’ active engagement, but also to appeal more directly to mature, international, and non-Highfield based students, who constitute a large portion of their audience. They are looking for a total brand overhaul to help them connect with their audiences across all of their physical and digital touch points.

In 2014 they rebranded Manchester Metropolitan University Students’ Union. They created the now infamous ‘smiley’ logo which signifies an immediate welcome, while breaking the barriers of typefaces and language for its 35,000 members.
