The Evolution of Technology in Schools

Technology has dramatically changed the learning experience in the classroom, very few teachers would disagree with that. From filmstrips to virtual learning environments, technology has transformed the quality of education within only a few years.

Surely some conservative teachers feel nostalgic about the old traditional classroom, where students used to take notes from the blackboard and share rooms with other grades. This, of course, had some advantages, such as social interaction, a certain structure and familiarity - things that an online learning environment might lack, some could argue.

Many children lived in rural areas where schools didn’t used to operate and therefore they had to learn their parents profession and skip school to make a living. The evolution of technology though has provided smart solutions like distance learning, where a student doesn’t need to be present in the classroom and can learn from teachers who live in different parts of the country by using online learning environments or distributed course materials. Another notable advantage is the various educational apps that help students learn better, make calculations, improve their spellings and the list goes on and on. Not only do they enhance student learning experiences but also are fun to use - and students love them. Could technology replace teachers one day? Most educators would answer ‘definitely not’. Nobody knows the answer though. How can we know? Technology has done impossible things possible and continues blows up our minds every day. See artificial intelligence for example. Of course, in the short term technology wouldn’t be able to replace the teacher, that’s for sure. Have a look at the infographic below to see how fast things are changing though. We hope you enjoy it.
