Two primary school pupils have invented their own Wonka-inspired sweets to win a national competition marking the centenary of Roald Dahl’s birth.

Alfie Richards, 8, from Irthlingborough in Northants, and Raiya Mann, 7, from London scooped the top prizes in Discovery Education’s Sweet Inventions Competition, which encouraged children to step into the shoes of the fictional chocolatier and win the chance to see their designs displayed at the Roald Dahl Museum.

‘Stars of comedy and film support search for best young comedy writer.’ Richard Curtis, Sir Lenny Henry, Miranda Hart, Sara Pascoe, and David Walliams give their backing to a new BBC competition for children aged 6 to 12. 

BBC Learning today launched a brand new competition in association with Comic Relief, Blue Peter and the National Literacy Trust to encourage children to have a giggle in the classroom and to get involved with Red Nose Day 2017.

A 10-year-old girl from Oldbury has won her school a substantial amount of £5000 to spend with Viking after impressing a judging panel with an invention for the classroom.

Shajeevana Pratheevan from St James CE Primary School, Oldbury, won the Viking Young Inventors’ Competition, beating hundreds of entries from primary schools across the UK.

Ahead of Christmas, YPO, the UK’s largest public sector buying organisation, has launched a nationwide search for a budding artist whose design will appear on its corporate Christmas card, which will be distributed to the company’s contacts, including customers, suppliers and partners.

YPO is calling on teachers and parents to encourage children to create imaginative and festive designs that it can imprint upon its corporate greeting to spread the holiday cheer. 

The competition is open to primary school children (aged 5-11) across the UK.

5 Pupils have been shortlisted in a national competition to win £5000 for their school to spend with Viking and a Cannon EOS 1200D package for themselves worth £346 (Inc VAT).

The competition, run by Viking the provider of everyday essentials to schools, encouraged pupils to utilise their imagination, and expand their vision of the potential advancements to their everyday stationery items in the classroom. Pupils had the choice of inventing a design for their classroom that was either fun, futuristic or eco-friendly.

Primary school pupils are being invited to take part in a Wonka-inspired competition, and use new digital resources, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Roald Dahl this week.

Discovery Education is challenging pupils to step into the shoes of Willy Wonka by designing their very own ‘frothbuggling’ sweet or chocolate, taking inspiration from the fantastical creations of the fictional chocolatier.
